Located in York Region just north of Toronto in Ontario, Canada, Vaughan has evolved into one of the Greater Toronto Area's fastest-growing suburbs. Incorporated as an official city in 1991, Vaughan now ranks as the fifth-largest municipality within the GTA. The city was formed through the amalgamation of five historically distinct communities: Woodbridge, Maple, Concord, Kleinburg, and a portion of Thornhill.

Vaughan—comprising Maple, Kleinburg, Concord, Woodbridge, and part of Thornhill—resides within York Region and borders metropolitan Toronto on its northwest edge.

The city is surrounded by six neighboring municipalities that shape its region:

Toronto (South) — Sharing a border along Steeles Avenue, Toronto connects closely to Vaughan via extensive transit networks, particularly the TTC subway line that runs directly into the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.

Markham and Richmond Hill (East) — To the east, Vaughan meets Richmond Hill and Markham. The community of Thornhill straddles the Vaughan-Markham border along Yonge Street, with portions located in each city. Both neighboring municipalities are known for their diversity and strong commercial activity.

Town of King (North) — To the north, King offers a contrasting landscape characterized by rolling countryside, equestrian farms, and well-preserved natural habitats.

Brampton and Caledon (West) — Across Highway 50 to the west lies the Regional Municipality of Peel. Brampton is an expansive, rapidly expanding city recognized for its manufacturing and logistics sectors. Further northwest, the Town of Caledon features vast rural terrain dominated by conservation areas and small villages.

Positioned at the center of these varied communities, Vaughan functions as a crucial economic, commercial, and transportation hub within the northern GTA.
